About
Classic Movie Images of Benson, North Carolina, houses one of the largest collection of original, timeless movie cards, images & printing plates in the nation.
How did this come about?
The Benton family originally began its print journey in newspaper, layout and commercial printing. However, in 1933 the decision was made to include motion picture exhibition. Naturally, printing and advertising went hand-in-hand with the operation of a movie theatre. Not only did the company print their own movie advertising, it at one time was printing weekly for 400 other theatres throughout the nation.
In the late forties, the company arranged itself with American International Pictures to design and print window cards for their productions. These 14×22 inch color cards, along with cards of other major movie producers, were printing in advance of the general release date. The usage of the cards had to be estimated and in nearly every case there were over-runs. These over-runs were stored; some now over seventy years old, are being brought out of retirement. The edges of these cards are yellowed with age, the print still in top quality, and are truly legitimate collector’s items.
